Gatehouse Pictures:
There are just a couple of days left in February as I'm writing this. We've got three months to get ready for opening which means, for the board, it’s time to start getting serious. I was at the club today along with Beth Allen and Oakley Amerman. It's kind of bleak at the pool in the winter. We were there to measure the location of the sewer line near the Pump House and the Snack Bar. Snow flurries, what fun!
As some of you know, some heavily chlorinated water got into the creek last year resulting in fish being killed for a good distance downstream beyond our property line. The EPA came in and investigated and we agreed that the water originated at our Pump House. It was not the fault of anyone on our staff. Without going into all of the details of how it happened, our method of backwashing was in violation of EPA regulations. In order to come into compliance, (and avoid getting shut down) we must connect the backwash pipe directly into the township sanitary sewer line.
The first problem has been to figure out where the line runs through the property. We have lots of charts that show where everything is, except the sewer line. We ended up paying to have a little transmitter snaked down the line. We now know that it runs from outside the managers office, past the Snack Bar, and under the creek near the bridge. We're going to excavate, to run a pipe about 85 feet from the Pump House toward the back end of the Snack Bar to make the connection. We're anticipating bids on the job soon.
I'm a big advocate of converting the pool over to a salt based water purification system. I had really hoped to have that up and running for this season, but we're going to hold off for now because we don't know how much the sewer line connection is going to cost.
We ran into a lot of weather problems last year that forced us to postpone the resurfacing of the main pool. Luckily the pool held up through the season. That work is on the agenda for this spring. We will also be installing new drains and covers in both pools as required by new Federal and State law regarding swimming pool safety.
We have a lot of capital expense going to infrastructure this year. The resurfacing alone is going to cost almost $50,000, but Bob Dietzel has been setting aside money in the budget each year in anticipation of major pool repair. Thanks to Bob's good fiscal planning, the board is able to cover these substantial costs without increasing dues for the 09 season.
I know none of this stuff is very glamorous or interesting. Nonetheless, these are the kinds of things that the board members have to deal with in February so that it will all be transparent to you come Memorial Day.
See you at Spring Clean-up!

There are four home swim meets (June 23 & 30 and July 7 &14) The pool will be closing early each of these days.
Here is a list of just some of the new things at Hideaway this year.
Summer will be upon us before too long. The Board of Directors wants to remind all members of their responsibility in keeping their family and guests safe this coming season. The staff at Hideaway works hard to keep you and your kids safe but we need everyone’s cooperation.
The first issue of safety is about general supervision of your family.
This limit protects the little ones and lets them enjoy the water without rough play.
Every swim club has guidelines about water borne illnesses. We do not want to see the pools be closed due to harmful water conditions. Last season, the baby pool had to be closed twice because of water contamination. Let’s work to prevent water borne illnesses for the sake of everyone’s enjoyment.
Please take note or these guidelines:
It is IMPERATIVE that members and their guests place rubber or plastic pants over ALL types of diapers.
Hideaway Swim Club is a co-operative club. We all have a hand in making it a fun, relaxing and SAFE place for our families.
Please take these issues seriously for the benefit and consideration of all members.
Thank you and let us all have a great summer!
Hideaway Swim Club is pleased to announce a non-swim club membership for those individuals who are looking to be part of a swim team this summer! This membership will allow the swimmer or diver to attend all practices & compete in all meets. In addition, there are several “team events,” at the swim club, that would be open to the member and their immediate family.
If you are interested in joining, please complete the form below. Any questions, contact Beth Janyszek at bjanyszek@verizon.net.

Hi Hurricanes!!
I am so excited to continue from where we left off last season. It was great to see everyone come together last season and it is my goal for us to be as happy as were last year, this upcoming season. We will still focus on team unity, working hard, and having FUN! We have to set a common goal from our 8 and under to our veteran parents of dedication, hard work, and making the best of a short season! The Hideaway tradition is coming back stronger then ever, so lets keeps the hard work and dedication going! It is our job to work day in and day out to bring back that old Hideaway tradition and start our own tradition. A day has not gone by that I haven’t put any thought into the upcoming season. I have decided to alter the practice times a little to give us that extra time in the water to improve. I will be starting the older kids practice promptly at 7 am. Warm up will being right at 7:20. We will also be adding some new practice activities to add some fun to our season. The practice activities will be a surprise!!! If you have any new ideas that we as a team can do please let us know at practice. We will still have our annual trip to Dorney Park. There has been a few suggestions that we bring back the sleepover, I am open to any thoughts or suggestions concerning that event…please let me know what you think! There are spring clinics at HHAA and CAC. If you have the time in the spring I strongly suggest that you sign up for a spring stroke and turn clinic. By getting a head start on the summer season, you will find yourself having more success this summer just simply by swimming in the spring. This season is our time to shine. Let’s start this season on the same positive foot we left each other last season. If there are any questions about this upcoming season please email me at mmarra56@gmail.com. On behalf of the rest of the coaches we welcome everyone back and we can’t wait to see everyone again very soon. See everyone soon!!!!
Mike

Hello Hideaway! I'm really excited to start a new season with the Hurricanes this summer. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Ellen (Dollarton) Zschunke. I've coached Hideaway diving for the past few years and coach the Hatboro-Horsham Aquatic Association and Hatboro-Horsham High School diving. If your child has never tried diving before, this is the year for it. If you are interested in private lessons prior to the beginning of the summer season, or during the summer season, please email me and write “diving” in the subject line.
To all of my returning divers, I can't wait to see your smiling faces and continue to learn better diving techniques with you. If you have any questions about practice, just contact me. ellenzschunke@gmail.com or ezschunke@lmtsd.org 215-828-6483
After School Practice (at Hideaway) Beginning May: 5:30-6:30 all ages
Morning Practices during the season at Hideaway 9:00-10:00 AM. Additional times will be added as needed.
How many private swim clubs in this area can brag about having a “Nine Hole” chip and putt course? Not many, we can assure you. Well, we want to make sure everyone who plays the course gets the most enjoyment out of it so, like everything else in life, we have rules. Not many, but here they are:
· ALL children under the age of 14 MUST have an adult to sign out clubs and to be the supervising adult on the course;
· ALL children under the age of 14 who bring their own clubs must have an adult sign the sheet stating that he/she will supervise the child/children on the course.
· No chipping or driving off the greens -- this causes divots.
· Anyone who breaks these rules will be given a one-day suspension from playing golf on our course.
We believe these rules to be fair and certainly modest when you think of the potential for personal injury or damage to surrounding property that could come if some of our younger players begin to “feel their oats” with that golf club in their hands. Let’s use common sense and help the little duffers by walking with them and showing them how to respect the course and play the game.
We also want to remind all our golfers to replace the flags after you are done putting and to keep the course clean and free of paper, soda cans and bottles, old golf balls and forgotten (tossed) golf clubs.
Have fun golfing this summer and be safe doing it.
Fellow Hideaway members, did you
know that food and beverages other than water are to be consumed only in the
snack bar and pavilion areas?
The second reason for not eating on
the playground is the bees. The wrappers and spilled drinks are a gourmet meal
for the bees that tend to get very aggressive come mid July. So for the
cleanliness of our club and the safety of our feet, let us work together to
keep the food and drinks in the designated areas.Hideaway has a Website (www.hideaway-swimclub.com) that is updated throughout the season. The site allows members to check on changes to the calendar of events, look for upcoming events, obtain copies of rules/regulations, etc.
The fact that we have a website also allows us to send email alerts for important events, information about what is happening at the Club and changes to the Calendar.
So check the website often and sign up for the “Hideaway News Blast” (emailme@hideaway-swimclub.com)
